Spirituality in Health Care Organizations
November/December 1999

The November/December issue of the Bulletin takes on the sometimes difficult, always fascinating role that spirituality plays in faith-based institutions. Martha Holstein and Dan Perreten favor us with historical and contemporary views, respectively, and John Shea lends considerable insight into how faith-based institutions differ in practice by attending to the spirit of both caregivers and patients. Paul D. Numrich contemplates how application of the Five Precepts, Buddhism's ethical touchstone, might improve health care in American institutions. Edwin R. DuBose outlines an upcoming Park Ridge Center study of issues facing clergy caregivers called upon to support the spiritual needs of dying patients.
