Australian Doctors Admit Helping Patients Die

A recent trial and publication last month of a survey indicating that many Australian surgeons have hastened death for the terminally ill have renewed a debate about laws that prohibit doctors from helping terminally ill patients end their lives. Under Australian law, doctors who grant a patient's request for quicker death risk prosecution, although the medical profession's own ethics guidelines allow responses close to the legal limits. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/12/03/health/03AUST.html
